Every dog has its day, and Tuesday, Feb. 17, belonged to one very special beagle. A prime specimen of the breed named Miss P won big at the 139th Annual Westminster Dog Show.
The 4-year-old Miss P, whose full name is Ch Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, took home the title of Best in Show at the long-running event in New York City. The Canada-based Miss P is only the second beagle to ever win the contest, and she is the grandniece of the previous winner, 2008’s champion Ch. K-Run’s Park Me In First.
This year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was a bit of a change of pace for the classic competition, which is often dominated by terriers. Wire Fox Terriers and Scottish Terriers have won the most titles in the 108-year history.
Miss P had an early lead in the competition when she was ranked first in her hound category on Monday, Feb. 16.

Other high-performing pups included a Shih Tzu named GCH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, a standard poodle named GCH Dawin Hearts On Fire, and an Old English sheepdog named GCH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect. The group also included a well-connected Portugese water dog named Matisse, who is the cousin of the Obama family dog Sunny.
According to The New York Times, the victorious beagle was celebrated by judges for her “wonderful type” and “wonderful head,” after she performed well on the carpet at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden. Miss P follows last year’s winner, a fox terrier named GCH Afterall Painting The Sky.
